In 2009 the topic was "Workplace Violence - Planning for Recovery".
As contingency planners, our plans may be lacking in terms of dealing with the
aftermath of a workplace violence event. This all-day event provided us with a chance to learn about
this unfortunate phenomenon, hear from experts on the issues associated with
maintaining business processes during and after such an occurrence and
to improve plans, yet again, for something that we certainly
cannot wish away.
We were
all very taken with and moved by the amazing story presented by
Shirley Singleton (Edgewater Technologies President, CEO and Chairperson) and
David Clancey (EVP, CTO and CSO). We (ACP-CT board) pledged to make a
donation to Endicott College
in Beverly,
MA in memory of the victims of the Edgewater Technologies
shootings in December 2000 and in honor of Shirley and David's leadership.
Our $1,000 donation was used to purchase library resources for the study of
school and workplace violence. Endicott offers two undergraduate courses in
Workplace and School
Violence,
and in Criminal Profiling and Threat Assessment. Two personally
written letters of thanks were sent from Endicott's President, Richard
E. Wylie, and from their library department head, along with a long
list of books and publications that our funds have procured for
them.
Stay tuned for information regarding this year's Annual All Day Event.
